make hokey pokey

 aim i want to  find out to make hokey pokey. 

research 

method 

Grease the base and sides of a 20cm x 20cm slice tin with butter.
Place Chelsea White Sugar or Chelsea Caster Sugar and Chelsea Golden Syrup into a heavy-based saucepan. Heat gently, stirring constantly, until the sugar dissolves.

Increase the heat and bring to the boil. Boil for two minutes. Stir occasionally, if necessary, to prevent burning. Remove from heat. Add the Baking power  and stir very quickly - the mixture will froth up rapidly.

Pour into prepared tin immediately. Leave until cold and set then break into pieces.

Coat hokey pokey pieces in melted chocolate for an extra special treat!

• 1 head of red cabbage
• Sharp knife
• Pot to boil water in (or blender)
• Strainer or colander
• Glass bowl
• clear cups or glasses
• household liquids to test (vinegar, baking soda, juices, soaps, bleach, ammonia, and anything else you want!)
• Something to stir with

 

1. Take your red cabbage and have an adult help you cut off about 2-3 cups (the amount doesn’t need to be exact, the more cabbage, the more indicator you will get).
2. Have an adult boil a pot of water and place the cabbage pieces in. Bring the water back to a boil for a couple minutes. Turn heat off and let sit for at least 10 minutes. Again, there’s no magic number, you just want the water to be a reddish-purple color. (You can also place the cabbage in a blender with water).
3. Strain the water out into a glass bowl and let cool.
4. Once it has cooled, pour some into clear cups or glasses and add different liquids to test. 
5. Gently stir or swirl the solution and see what happens!

(Be careful about mixing household cleaners together, as some combinations may produce harmful fumes. Only test one substance at a time.)

• 1 tsp citric acid
• 2 tbsp icing sugar
• 3 tbsp jelly crystals (any flavour you like)
• 1 tsp baking soda

Gather your ingredients. 

Measure ingredients into a small bowl. 

Mix them well.

Enjoy!

FUN FACT

When you mix baking soda  with citric acid some of the atoms recombine into CO2  and as this gas escapes the sherbet it makes it fizz and bubble up in your mouth.

Bug
Warm water
2 tsp active dried yeast
2 tsp Chelsea Raw Sugar
2 tsp ground ginger

Ginger beer
3 cups Chelsea Raw Sugar
2 tsp cream of tartar
1L boiling water and
5L cold water
Juice of 2 lemons, strained

Method

Bug:
Fill a large glass jar ¾ full with warm water. Add the yeast, Chelsea Raw Sugar and ginger. Cover loosely with a lid or tea-towel – do not screw tight or it won’t be able to breathe. Sit in a warm place, such as the kitchen table or similar.  
Feed your bug every day for seven days with 1 tsp Chelsea Raw Sugar and 1 tsp ground ginger.
After a week, you are ready to make your first batch of beer.

Ginger Beer:
In a large bowl or bucket, put the Chelsea Raw Sugar and cream of tartar, then add the boiling water. Stir to dissolve the sugar before adding the cold water. Get your bug and pour all the liquid (not the sludge in the bottom) into a bucket and add the lemon juice.

Stir well and then pour into your clean bottles – it makes six 750ml bottles.

Store in a cool, dark place for two weeks before drinking. Make sure you open the bottle in the kitchen sink as it might overflow. Open the cap bit by bit to allow the air to escape.

RESTORE AND REUSE
Take the jar with the sludge in it and fill with water to the top. Tip out half or give to a friend so that they can make their own bug. Fill back up to ¾ and feed for another week.

DON’T NEGLECT IT
If you are too busy to make a batch of ginger beer one week, don’t just keep feeding and hope for the best, as your bug won’t survive. Pour it out after a week – as you would if you were making some ginger beer – and follow the above instructions for restoring your bug all over again.

i want to find out if milk help reduce  of the hot sauce

                                          

First exp- hot chilli paste. It took 2 mins and 5 seconds  for the taste and heat of this to go away, without a drink.

Second exp- I didn't do this. The other students put some chilli in their mouth and then had a sip of water. The water did not help to reduce the heat much.

Third exp  - Small taste of chilli in my mouth. Swirl a mouthful of coke around your mouth. It reduced the heat of the chilli a bit better than the water did.

 

4th exp -  I didn't do this. Small bit of chilli on tongue. Swirl milk around your mouth. Other students said the milk worked better at reducing the heat.

Method  - Tasting

Equipment - iceblock sticks, various substances, water

Results. Food 1. The taste was a mixture of lime and lemon. It was  sweet, crunchy and soft. When I blocked my nose it had no taste. Ir was a fruit lolly. 

food 2 . It tasted sugary but with a sour taste. It was citric acid.

Food 3. It tasted bitter. It was a powder. I tasted it on my tongue. It was baking soda.

Food 4.  It tasted mildly of salt with my nose blocked. With my unblocked nose it was a lot more salty It was salt.

Food 5. It tasted sweet with my nose unblocked. With my nose blocked I could hardly taste it. It was sugar.

Food 6. It tasted fizzy and sweet. It was sherbert.
